This week we studied Spring and rainbows. Each week I try to incorporate a science experiment into our theme normally on Friday. I get my lab coat out and safety goggles and we have a lot of fun and we learn a lot! I want to promote scientific thinking even in my young students and also create critical thinking skills and my Lively Learners LOVE science! They had so much excitement during this experiment!
Materials you need:
Bowl
Milk
Food coloring (red,blue, yellow)
Science observation sheet (can be purchased here)
Step 1: pass each student a bowl and put a small amount of milk into the bowl, you really only need enough to cover the bottom of the bowl.
Step 2: place one-two drops of red, yellow, and blue food coloring in a triangle shape like this...

Then, students can draw what they see in the circle for Observation 1. Also, while they are watching and watching they can write what they did under observation 1.
Step 3: students continue to watch the milk and colors to see what happens. Here are some pictures as the experiment is happening.

At the end of the experiment colors will mix together like this.
BUT, what I LOVE is that they all turn out different!
*you can also but dish washing soap in the middle if you want to, I always skip that step.
*make sure you tell students that if they bump or stir their bowl they will mess up the experiment and end up with an ugly brown or grey bowl of liquid!

And the last step is complete the rest of the science observation sheet! Here is a completed form!
Leave a comment below after you complete this experiment with your kiddos and let me know how it went and what they thought!! :-)
