I recently went to Project Lead the Way Lead Teacher Core Training, I had a great time, and could not have asked for better trainers! The overall experience of the training was fantastic, we got to not only learn about the modules, but learn by doing first hand. We got to experience several modules just as our students would. This is a very important aspect of professional development to me because I want to make sure the content I am going to be teaching is relevant to my students. I am VERY passionate about teaching Science and work my best to get other elementary teachers on board with teaching it in their classrooms. After experiencing this training my most important takeaway is that there is hope for Science to be taught in every elementary classroom, where teachers are comfortable teaching the content and growing with their students. Administrators must stop accepting the excuse “I don’t have time to teach Science” as a viable reason to not expose our students to this content! My biggest challenge as I take this back to my school is the logistics of how each teacher in our building will schedule time to use our iPad cart and work together to schedule grade level modules. I know with an enthusiastic staff we will get this done! As I take this back to my school I know I am well prepared to teach my colleagues and prepare them to start a new year off right!
